According to news articles, a group called ResponsibleOhio wants to amend the Ohio Constitution to legalize marijuana, and get the issue on the ballot in 2015.  Modelling its proposal after the casino amendments, rights to grow and sell marijuana would be given to ten individuals enumerated in the constitution.  See Columbus Dispatch, Group aims for 2015 ballot issue to legalize marijuana; Cleveland.com Campaign to legalize marijuana use in Ohio quietly underway and borrows page from casino campaign.   The group must collect 1,000 signatures before the  proposed amendment can be filed with the Ohio Attorney General, the first step in the initiated amendment process.

It appears that another group , Responsible Ohioans for Cannabis, wants to get the issue on the ballot in 2016.  This group previously filed an initiative petition with the Attorney General, but it was rejected.   Their proposed amendment does not contain language naming certain individuals as marijuana growers or sellers.

A medical marijuana amendment , Ohio Medical Cannabis Amendment , did not get enough signatures to go on the ballot in 2014.  The Ohio Rights Group will try for the 2015 ballot.

Other attempts at marijuana amendments are discussed in our prior post: New Initiative Petition – Ohio Cannabis Rights Amendment
