A new initiative petition was filed with the Ohio Attorney General by the Ohio Rights Group on May 7, 2013, the Ohio Cannabis Rights Amendment.  AG Action is due by May 17, 2013.  This proposal adds a section 12 to Article XV of the Ohio Constitution, to allow the medical, therapeutic  and industrial use and regulation of Cannabis in the State of Ohio.  The industrial use provisions distinguish this latest initiative petition from previous ones.  Industrial marijuana, or hemp, contains very low levels of THC and is non-psychoactive.

Two other proposed amendments concerning medical marijuana were certified by the Ohio Attorney General in recent years, including Ohio Medical Cannabis Amendment  and the Ohio Alternative Treatment Amendment.  The major distinguishing feature is  that the Ohio Medical Cannabis Amendment leaves many details to be decided to a commission to be established later, while the Ohio Alternative Treatment Amendment writes these details into the Ohio Constitution.  See Legalizing Medical Marijuana: Two Proposed Issues , C|M|LAW Library Blog.
